Signing in

Signing in to HAVEN Hub takes one click with your Yale account, and this page explains how it works, why you might be turned away, and what the inactivity warning means.

Signing in to HAVEN Hub takes one click with your Yale account, and this page explains how it works, why you might be turned away, and what the inactivity warning means.

Signing in with your Yale account

When you open HAVEN Hub, you land on the sign-in screen: a photo of the clinic building with a card in the center showing the HAVEN logo, the heading Sign in to HAVEN Hub, and the line "Use your Yale account to continue."

  1. Click Sign in with Yale

Press the Sign in with Yale button. While it works, the button turns gray, shows a spinner, and reads "Signing in…" so you don't accidentally click twice on a slow connection.

  2. Continue through Yale

You'll be handed to the standard Yale sign-in (the same Microsoft/Yale login you use for other Yale services). Sign in there as usual.

  3. Land on your dashboard

Once Yale confirms who you are, you're brought back to your home dashboard. If you clicked a link that sent you to a specific page, you'll land there instead.

Note

Any Yale account can sign in. If you are matched to a member record, you land on your dashboard. If not, you are taken to the Welcome page, where you can start an application when recruitment is open. Outside or guest Microsoft accounts are turned away. The first time you are matched to your member record, your Yale account is linked to it, so future sign-ins are instant. If you are a new member who has been added to next term's roster, you can sign in before the term starts, so you can finish onboarding ahead of training.

If you're having trouble, look under the button for Trouble signing in? and the link beside it. It opens the support assistant right there on the sign-in screen, so you can describe the problem in chat without needing to get in first. If the chat widget cannot load (a content blocker, or a filtered network), the same link falls back to opening your mail client addressed to the IT team.

If you do not have a yale.edu email

A few active members have a contact email on file that is not a Yale address. They can sign in with a one-time link instead of the Yale button.

  1. Open the email form

Under Sign in with Yale, select No yale.edu email?. A short form opens that reads "Get a one-time sign-in link by email."

  2. Request the link

Enter the email address the clinic has on file for you and select Email me a sign-in link. You will see: "If that email belongs to an active member, we have sent a sign-in link. It expires in 30 minutes."

  3. Confirm it is you

Open the link from the email. A Confirm sign-in page shows the name and email you are about to sign in as. Select Continue if that is you, or This is not me if it is not.

Note

Each link works once and expires after 30 minutes. If you use an old or used link, the sign-in screen tells you "That sign-in link has expired or was already used. Request a new one below." and the email form opens so you can ask for another. If you enter a yale.edu address, the form tells you to use Sign in with Yale instead.

Why you might not get in

There are a few different reasons sign-in can go differently, and each looks a little different.

What happened

What you'll see

Your Yale login worked, but there's no member record for you

You're taken to the Welcome page (not an error)

Your Yale login worked, but your membership has ended

The same page, headed Your HAVEN Free Clinic access has ended

Your email isn't matched, or your account isn't active

A red message: "We couldn't sign you in. That email isn't in our records or the account isn't active."

Any other sign-in problem

A red message: "Sign-in failed. Please try again, or contact the IT team."

The Welcome page

If you sign in with Yale successfully but the system can't find you in its records (for example, you're brand new), you'll see the Welcome to HAVEN Free Clinic page instead of an error. If your membership has ended, the same page is headed Your HAVEN Free Clinic access has ended and explains that the Hub is closed to you.

It explains that you signed in successfully but couldn't be found (or that your access has ended), and it tells you to contact the IT team if that is wrong so they can fix your record. If a recruitment cycle is open, it also shows a Start an application button that takes you to the applicant portal so you can apply. There's a Sign out button that returns you to the sign-in screen.

Warning

If your membership has ended (you've been offboarded), your access stops right away. Even if you were already signed in, your next page will send you to this page. Access is checked on every page, so it isn't delayed until your session runs out.

Staying signed in, and automatic sign-out

Your sign-in lasts up to 7 days, but the Hub signs you out after 30 minutes of no activity to keep your account safe on a shared or public computer.

Any activity resets the 30-minute clock: clicking, typing, scrolling, or a tap on a touchscreen. Just moving the mouse does not count.

The "Still there?" warning

After 25 minutes with no activity (5 minutes before you'd be signed out), a small banner appears at the bottom of the screen:

  • Heading: Still there?

  • Message: "You'll be signed out in 5 minutes due to inactivity."

  • Button: Stay signed in

Click Stay signed in to dismiss the banner and start the 30-minute clock over. If you do nothing, you're signed out automatically after the full 30 minutes and returned to the sign-in screen.

Note

This timer only runs while you're signed in. It does nothing while you're sitting on the sign-in screen.
