The applicant portal keeps a live status tracker for every application you have started or submitted, so you always know what happens next.
Where to find it
Sign in at the portal and look under Your applications on your portal home. You get one card per application. To sign in, use Sign in with Yale if you have a Yale account, or request a one-time email link if you do not (see Starting an application).
Note
You only ever see final outcomes here. Interview and decision details are shown once the department formally schedules an interview or releases decisions. Internal reviewer notes are never shown to applicants.
The two kinds of cards
Your applications appear in one of two forms depending on whether you have submitted yet.
A draft you have not submitted
While the cycle is still open, an unsubmitted application shows as a compact Continue row (the cycle title, "Continue your application", and an arrow). Click it to pick up the wizard exactly where you left off.
If the cycle has since closed, the row instead reads Applications closed and the link is removed, because a draft cannot be submitted to a closed cycle.
The exception is an application you were invited to by a single-use link. Those keep their Continue link on a closed cycle, because the invitation is what admits you.
A submitted application
Once you submit, the card shows the cycle title, a short detail line, a status pill in the top-right corner, and a horizontal progress tracker with four points: Submitted, In review, Interview, and Decision. Each point shows as done (a filled check), current (a ringed dot), or upcoming (grey).
What each status means
The pill and detail line tell you exactly where you stand. Here is what you may see, in roughly the order an application moves through.
Status pill | What the detail line says | What it means |
Submitted | Under review | Your application is in. The tracker sits at In review. |
Interview scheduled | The interview date and time (Eastern Time), plus "(join link in your email)" if there is a video link | An interview has been set. The tracker reaches Interview. |
Waitlisted | We will be in touch if a spot opens. | Decisions are out and you are on the waitlist. You may also get an email telling you whether to attend training; follow what it says. |
Not selected this cycle | Thank you for applying. | Decisions are out and no spot was offered this cycle. |
Accepted to {Department} | (none) | You have been accepted. Watch your email for your onboarding link. If you are accepted into more than one department, the pill names each of them. |
Onboarding in progress | Form sent to you, Form submitted, or Complete | You have been accepted and are working through onboarding. |
Withdrawn | You withdrew this application. | You stepped back from this cycle. |
Tip
If your pill says Accepted or Onboarding in progress, your next step is the onboarding form that arrives by email. See Accepting your offer.
Stepping back from an application
If your plans change, you can withdraw yourself. You do not need to email anyone. Each card offers the one control that fits where you are, at the bottom of the card, and every one of them asks you to confirm first.
Where you are | The button | What it warns you |
Draft, not yet submitted | Discard draft | "Discard? This deletes your answers and any files." |
Submitted, interviewing, or waitlisted | Withdraw application | "Withdraw? We will stop considering you this cycle." |
Accepted, offer emailed, or onboarding form not yet complete | Decline offer | "Decline this offer?" |
Select the button
It re-labels itself with the confirmation wording.
Select it again to confirm
If you wait a few seconds without confirming, it resets and nothing happens.
Warning
Withdrawing is final from your side. Your card changes to Withdrawn, you leave the review queue, and reopening your application link shows "You withdrew this application. It is no longer under consideration, and it cannot be reopened from here." If you change your mind, contact the clinic using the support link on that page; a recruitment manager can reopen it for you.
Note
Discarding a draft deletes it. Your answers and any files you uploaded are removed. There is no undo, and no copy kept.
If something goes wrong (for example, if staff acted on your application at the same moment), the card itself tells you why rather than failing silently.
Why it may still say "Under review"
Sometimes an application stays at Submitted / Under review for a while even after you expect a decision. This is normal. Your status only moves once the department has formally acted.
Note
Times shown on your interview card are in Eastern Time. The actual interview join link and acceptance details arrive in separate emails, so keep an eye on your inbox.
